Bomb Alley – A 101 Word Story

Four planes sweep in low across the water. 

‘Next wave’ Jenkins says, from the relative safety of the beachhead.

All eyes track the bomb, the explosion is on the stern immediately engulfing the ship in flames. 

More fighters join in, clearly identifying the ship as crippled. They watch the crew abandon ship. Bodies are in the water and they can see that the ship is going down. 

There were too many ships occupying the small inlet and like a game of battleships, a hit was inevitable.

The ship was home for the last four weeks, the civilian crew, their new friends.
